Teen dies in overnight Wichita shooting

A homicide just before midnight left a 16-year-old teen dead, Wichita police say.

A Wichita man, 42, was booked into the Sedgwick County Jail on suspicion of second degree murder and for being a felon possessing a firearm, said Wichita police officer Paul Cruz, in a prepared statement on Saturday.

The man shot the teen in the head, Cruz said. The call to 911 came just before midnight on Friday. Officers found the man still at the scene, and the teen still alive but critical, in the 1700 block of South Yale in southeast Wichita, Cruz said.

The teen died later at a hospital, Cruz said.
