Wichita police are asking for help from the public in a shooting at the parking lot of a south Wichita Dollar General.

The shooting happened in the 1900 block of East Pawnee, shortly after 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sgt. Nikki Woodrow, spokeswoman for the Wichita Police Department, said Wednesday.

Police officers were dispatched to the store where they discovered shell casings in the parking lot. Two witnesses reported seeing people shooting at one another in the parking lot, Woodrow said.

A short time later, police were called to Via Christi St. Joseph after an 18-year-old man walked into the hospital with a gunshot wound to his leg. The man told police he was walking with his 18-year-old friend who climbed into a silver 4-door Hyundai with three people to sell drugs.

“As the car began to take off, his friend jumped from the car and an individual from inside the car began to shoot at them,” Woodrow said.

The man with the gunshot wound suffered non-life-threatening injuries, she said.

Besides the Hyundai, police are also looking for a black Chevy Silverado extended cab pickup that was also at the scene of the shootings.

Police are asking anyone with any additional information or who may have been in the area at the time, to contact the detective section at 316-268-4407 or Crime Stoppers at 316-267-2111.
