Gary Cundiff – Bishop Carroll High School's boys basketball coach – asked a judge Thursday to postpone his preliminary hearing on felony theft and making false information charges for two weeks.

Cundiff told Sedgwick County District Court Judge Jeff Goering he plans to hire a defense attorney within that time. To date, he has not had a lawyer representing him on charges alleging he stole more than $26,000 from Wave Array Science, a business registered under his home address, and falsified a financial statement to conceal the theft.

The allegations stem from a fallout in a business partnership with New Jersey businessman Robert Steinmetz. Cundiff has denied any wrongdoing.

Goering agreed to move the hearing to Sept. 29. Cundiff is free on bond.
