Neighbors evacuated after standoff with armed man in Valley Center

At least some people in a residential area of Valley Center have been evacuated as a precaution after a man with a gun holed up in a house in the Wichita suburb Wednesday night, authorities said.

The man is inside a house in the area of Ford and Meridian, a Sedgwick County emergency dispatch supervisor said. He is alone in the house.

Numerous law enforcement officers from the metropolitan area have converged on the scene to provide support and a SWAT team has been called to the scene.

The standoff began at about 7 p.m., the dispatch supervisor said.
