Body found in river near Herman Hill Park
Kayakers in the Arkansas River found a body near Herman Hill Park, at Pawnee and Broadway, Thursday afternoon.
Around 2:15 p.m., police and firefighters responded to the scene, where they found the body hung up on a sandbar in the middle of the river, according to Wichita police Sgt. Nikki Woodrow.
No identification has been made on the body yet.
“It’s too early to tell how long the body’s been there,” she said. “Right now we don’t know if it’s a male or a female.”
The body will be taken to the coroner’s office, where a medical examination will be performed.
Woodrow said police will not release further information until the coroner has made a determination as to identity and cause of death.
