Crews are working to restore power after a fire at an electrical substation left 8,000 Wichita residents without power Tuesday night.
Westar Energy reported smoke coming from a substation in northeast Wichita at around 6 p.m. As of 7:45 p.m., Westar said a maintenance crew is at the site working to redirect power from other neighborhoods while the equipment is repaired.
Original reports estimated the power would be restored by 8 p.m. Westar says it is currently re-evaluating the conditions and working to get the power on as soon as possible.
