Medical condition suspected in southeast Wichita crash

One person has been critically injured following a crash during the evening commute Thursday in southeast Wichita, authorities said.

The crash was reported at 5:14 p.m. on Lincoln near Edgemoor, a Sedgwick County emergency dispatch supervisor said.

The victim, who is in his 50s, lost consciousness while driving prior to the crash, according to emergency radio traffic between the ambulance and the hospital. He was revived at the scene, prior to being taken to the hospital.

Witnesses said the truck drifted off the street as the motorist was heading west, police said at the scene. The truck then hit a utility pole next to a sidewalk near an entrance to a parking lot.

The crash appears to have been caused by a medical condition, police said.
