Missing child’s body found in lake
The body of a missing juvenile was pulled from a northwest Wichita lake Sunday afternoon less than three hours after the juvenile was reported missing.
The Wichita Fire Department was called to the 3200 block of Ridge Port at a lake near 29th and Ridge shortly after 4:30 pm, according to WFD Interim Chief Tammy Snow.
“Upon arrival on the scene after talking with the occupants, we decided to respond to a submersion,” Snow said. “There was a relatively large lake party. The parents came to pick up this youth but they couldn’t find him.”
Emergency and fire crews searched the shoreline and found the body about 10 feet from shore and 10 feet under water.
Late Sunday night, Pathway Church posted on Facebook that “a young woman named Shelby Cramb drowned” while at the church’s Middle School Lake Party, which was held Sunday afternoon at 3221 Ridge Port Court.
The church said it planned to hold a prayer meeting at its Westlink Campus, 2001 N. Maize Road, at 6:30 Monday night.
The Wichita Police Department is investigating the incident.
More information is expected during Monday morning's police briefing with local media.
