Girl’s body found in Coldwater Lake after report of missing swimmer

The body of a 12-year-old girl was recovered from a Comanche County lake Tuesday afternoon, according to a 911 dispatcher.

The girl’s body was located by Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism personnel in Coldwater Lake just after 3:30 p.m., the dispatcher said. A 911 call about a missing girl who had been swimming in the lake was received shortly after 1 p.m. on Tuesday.

Officials called for the temporary evacuation of the lake as crews searched for the missing swimmer. Coldwater Lake is about 130 miles west of Wichita.
