Update: Woman killed in west Wichita house fire
A house fire in west Wichita on Wednesday claimed the life of an elderly woman, according to a Wichita Fire Department official.
The fire was reported at 5:22 a.m. at a house in the 12300 block of West Walker, just west of Kellogg and 119th, according to a 911 dispatcher.
The cause of the fire is still being determined, said Kelly Zane of the department’s fire investigations unit, though he said the lone victim was an elderly woman. A report early Wednesday morning indicated the blaze started as a grass fire, though a department official did not confirm that at the scene.
Three dogs also died in the blaze. An investigator from the Kansas State Fire Marshal’s Office was to assist Wichita fire personnel in the investigation, according to a tweet from the office.
