A 54-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a deadly hit-and-run incident two years ago, authorities said.

Shortly before 10 a.m. Friday, detectives arrested Cary Whitlock, 54, of Clearwater on suspicion of failing to stop at an accident that resulted in death, the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.

Jeremy Napier, 43, was struck and killed while walking near Clearwater on Sept. 14, 2014. Napier was walking on 103rd Street South between Ridge Road and Hoover Road when he was struck by a vehicle at about 2:30 a.m. on a Sunday, authorities said at the time.

Investigators said then that they were looking for a dark red 2007 to 2009 Hyundai Santa Fe sport utility vehicle that might have front-end damage.

Whitlock’s arrest “was the culmination of a lengthy investigation coupled with recent developments in the case” that resulted in sufficient probable cause to make the arrest, the sheriff’s office statement said.

Whitlock was booked into the Sedgwick County Jail shortly after 11:30 a.m. Friday. He is being held without bond.
