It’s Second Saturday at The Workroom FREE ALERT
The Workroom is putting on its Second Saturday Artisan Market from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at 150 N. Cleveland. As always, the market, founded by The Workroom’s Janelle King, will include local vendors, food trucks and live music. Jeremiah Johnsen will perform from 10 a.m. to noon, and Sizzle Biscuit will perform from noon to 2 p.m.

Get the kids moving
Optimum Prep, an athletic development group, is putting on several workshops over the summer that will help children of all ages get active and learn techniques from coaches, including local police officers who were once athletes. The sessions are free and are recommended for children from second through eighth grade. All skill levels are welcome, from children who just want to get active to those with elite skills. Final KEYN summer concert FREE ALERT
KEYN’s summer concert series wraps up this Friday with a performance by The Astronauts. Food trucks will begin serving at 6:30 p.m. The band takes the stage at 8 p.m. Bring your lawn chairs, but leave the pets at home. Stay for the choreographed water, light and music show at the WaterWalk fountains at 8, 9 and 10 p.m.

Los Lonely Boys at the Orpheum
Los Lonely Boys, a rock group from San Angelo, Texas, is performing Friday at Wichita’s Orpheum Theatre. The group, made up of a trio of brothers, rose to fame after releasing its 2003 self-titled album and is known for its hit “Heaven.” The group’s most recently album, “Revelation,” was released in 2014.

Fly by Night CD release party FREE ALERT
Local band Fly By Night is headlining two shows this weekend to celebrate the release of its new album of 10 original songs and two adaptations, “The Nola Tapes.” On Saturday, it’ll perform on the rooftop patio of Industry Old Town, the former Club Indigo in Old Town. And on Sunday, the band will play on the patio at Mort’s. Fly By Night is made up of Joe Stumpe, Ben Ornelas, Kevin Moore and Brian Ashcraft. Copies of the album will be for sale for $10 at the shows.

Back-to-school fun at the mall FREE ALERT
Back-to-school blues can be lessened with shopping therapy, and that can be achieved Saturday at Towne East Square’s 2016 Back to School event. The afternoon will include models showing off back-to-school trends, information from Wichita State University representatives, eye screenings for kids, a photo booth, live music and refreshments.

Synchronized swimming show
Take a break from televised Olympic pool activities to watch some real-life splashing at this weekend’s annual show by Indian Hills Synchronized Swimming. The show, titled “Rock Around the Clock,” is on Saturday evening, and spectators will be able to buy treats from the pool’s concession stand, including $1 popcorn, candy, chips and sno-cones.

Country concert in the country
The seventh-annual Concert in the Country, an event put on each year at a farm at 5820 N. Ridge Road, happens Saturday and will feature a show by Oklahoma-bred country singer Jon Wolfe. Food trucks and beverages will be available at the show. Wolfe will take the stage at 8 p.m., but opening acts will begin playing at 6 p.m. The show is being put on by Coming Together for a Cure, a nonprofit whose goal is raising awareness about adult stem cell therapy.

Back-to-school board game bonding
A back-to-school community family board game night is planned for Friday, Aug. 12, at the Sedgwick County Extension. The event, which will take place in the Sunflower room, will allow families to get together and try out new board games. It’s a come-and-go event, and organizers say it’s appropriate for all ages.
