Pheasants and Quail Forever state convention set for next Saturday
Some of America’s top pheasant and bobwhite quail experts will be sharing their knowledge at the Kansas Pheasants Forever and Quail Forever annual state convention Saturday in Wichita.
Steve Riley, a regional director for the conservation groups, said the educational seminars will be held between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. at the Wichita Marriott, 9100 E. Corporate Drive.
Topics include the current status of both gamebirds in Kansas and possible projections for the future. Habitat programs specific to Kansas, including the use of cover crops, food plots and grassland management, will be covered, as will how landowners and concerned sportsmen can utilize the group’s nine full-time employees in Kansas in creating better wildlife habitat.
Biologists from the Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism will also speak. Riley is hoping the event will draw a variety of interest groups.
“We’re trying to bring together a diverse group of people, members, farmers and ranchers, conservation practitioners,” Riley said,“to help them get a better understanding of each others issues, too. There are so many within each group that really care about the same things when it comes to wildlife.”
Howard Vincent, chief executive officer for Pheasants Forever and Quail Forever, will be at the event as will Theresa Vail, former Miss Kansas and now an outdoors television show host.
A reception will be held Friday evening. The annual state fund-raising banquet will be held after the workshops on Saturday.
