The Thunder’s 20 greatest players: No. 7 Rob Weingartner

Before the season, we asked Thunder fans to vote online for the top 20 players for 20 seasons. We’ll introduce one a week throughout the season.

Rob Weingartner was a 21-year-old pro rookie when he was released by the Oklahoma City Blazers in training camp. The expansion Thunder signed him after a 3-7 start and he became a mainstay forward.

Weingartner’s work ethic, even as a third-liner for two of his three Thunder seasons, made him loved by fans and coaches. He was a key part of CHL championship teams in 1994 and 1995. He returned to the club in 2006 as an assistant coach and was interim coach in 2008, finishing out the season at 16-29-2.
