NBA legend Michael Jordan had a great time Sunday at Kansas Speedway
NASCAR fans at Sunday’s Cup Series race at Kansas Speedway not only witnessed an overtime win in the AdventHealth 400 but also saw the greatest basketball player in NBA history.
Tyler Reddick won the race for 23XI Racing, which is co-owned by former Chicago Bulls legend Michael Jordan and Denny Hamlin.
Jordan, a Hall of Famer who won six NBA titles with the Chicago Bulls, got involved with NASCAR in 2020 when he was still the majority owner of the NBA’s Charlotte Hornets. Jordan joined forces with Hamlin, who is still racing.
In an interview with CBS News earlier this month, Jordan said his love of auto racing came from his late father, James.
“He used to work on all the neighborhood cars … he would fix our cars,” Jordan said. “We would never send our car to the service. He would figure out a way to fix it. So I think it gravitated into his love for cars. And he likes driving fast. My mom likes driving fast.”
Hamlin finished fourth in Sunday’s race in Kansas City, Kansas, and Jordan admitted in a post-race interview that he wanted to finish ahead of his co-owner.
“Look, I’m racing against Denny and I really wanted to beat him because I know we’re going to talk a lot of trash later,” said Jordan, who did quite a bit of smack-talk during his time with the Bulls.
The two also had a not-so-sweet post-race moment. At least from Hamlin’s perspective.
