It’s NFL Draft week, and Chiefs fans are busy playing general manager Brett Veach on those online draft simulators.

The NFL Draft begins Thursday in Pittsburgh, and three national NFL writers on Monday shared their thoughts on what could happen.

Here’s what was being said about the Chiefs, who have the ninth and 29th picks in the first round.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter shared what he’s been hearing from NFL teams. He said defensive back will be a priority for the Chiefs.

“The Chiefs have three top-40 picks (Nos. 9, 29 and 40), and many expect at least one of those to be used on a cornerback,” Schefter wrote. “Kansas City traded Trent McDuffie to the Rams, lost Jaylen Watson to the same team in free agency and is now left with its projected starting cornerbacks as Kristian Fulton and second-year player Nohl Williams.

“At last month’s owners meetings, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid praised the play of Williams, who played 44% of the snaps last season; the team believes in him. But the Chiefs also have holes at the position that are expected to be addressed this week.”

The Ringer’s Todd McShay released a video Monday with this title: “NFL Draft Week Buzz: Everything I’m Hearing and a Top-10 Flash Mock.”

A day earlier, McShay had reported Chiefs coach Andy Reid was “hell-bent on figuring out this offensive line.”

He continued that thought Monday, but added that not everyone in the Chiefs organization agrees with Reid.

“I think the Chiefs stay home and they take offensive tackle (at No. 9), which could be (Miami’s Francis) Mauigoa, it could be (Utah’s Spencer) Fano,” McShay said. “I don’t know if they pull the trigger on (Alabama’s Kadyn) Proctor, but they could. But I also know there are people in that building that are like — it’s a hard sell when you’re like, ‘Andy, we can get an offensive tackle.’ And Andy’s like, ‘Yeah, who? Where?’”

Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer didn’t mention the Chiefs specifically Monday but he did mention something Veach talked about last week. There could be a run on offensive tackles.

“I do think that if they don’t creep into that first eight, nine, 10 slots, I think you’re going to get a massive run of offensive linemen from 10 to 20, 25,” Veach said. “So I think there are numbers there, but I think that once you get to pick, say, 35 those numbers quickly diminish, and then there’s a big fall off.”

Breer wrote about teams possibly trying to trade up to take an offensive tackle. He sees Mauigoa, Fano, Proctor, Utah’s Spencer Caleb Lomu, Georgia’s Monroe Freeling, Clemson’s Blake Miller and Arizona State’s Max Iheanachor as potential first-round picks.

“With so many teams having a need at the position, and the position being of such great value, my guess is that the well running dry could provoke some movement,” Breer wrote.

“The alley of picks where it could happen, as I see it anyway, is Baltimore at 14, Detroit at 17, Carolina at 19, Pittsburgh at 21, Philadelphia at 23, Cleveland at 24 and Chicago at 25. If, say, after 13 picks, Mauigoa and Fano are gone and the five others are left, and you have these seven teams looming as potential suitors, it’s possible we’ll see a little game of leapfrog going.”

It’s something to keep in mind as the Chiefs have that 29th pick.
