Alex Gordon couldn’t believe who hopped in his car. In mere seconds, the Royals newest Hall of Fame inductee had a trio of legends ready to tag along for an adventure.

There was two-sport star Bo Jackson riding shotgun. In the back seat sat world-class infielders George Brett and Mike Sweeney.

And, as Gordon recalls, the conversations were endless.

“If you have ever been around George Brett, he is not a quiet guy,” Gordon joked. “He loves to talk, in a good way. So he is always chirping. I don’t think we really had the music, but it wasn’t a far drive.”

The Hall of Famers were headed to shoot a special commercial for the Royals. The club, in conjunction with Pine Tar Collective, released a series of vignettes to hype Gordon’s induction into the Royals Hall of Fame.

KC released three vignettes in recent days ahead of the announcement. Gordon was excited to be part of the project with guys he grew up watching.

“Any time you are around Bo Jackson, there is something about that guy,” Gordon said. “His aura and just what he is all about ... just makes you nervous. Every time I’ve seen him, no matter how many times I’ve seen him, it’s Bo Jackson, the greatest athlete of all time.

“So when he is sitting shotgun next to you and you had a poster of him growing up, it was surreal. And I just couldn’t believe it. So, very blessed.”

Gordon was welcomed by several members of the Royals Hall of Fame in the videos. He will get his official induction on June 13 at Kauffman Stadium. The Royals will hold a pregame ceremony ahead of their regular-season game against the Athletics.

Gordon is the 31st member of the Royals Hall of Fame. Last season, the Royals inducted Jackson alongside former general managers Cedric Tallis and John Schuerholz.

In his career, Gordon played all 14 seasons with the Royals. He produced a .257 batting average with 190 home runs and 749 RBIs. He was a three-time All-Star and eight-time Gold Glove Award recipient.

Gordon also received two Platinum Gold Gloves. Perhaps his greatest moment was hitting a game-tying home run in Game 1 of the 2015 World Series against the New York Mets.

The home run set the tone for the Royals in the series. It also was the crowning achievement in Gordon’s illustrious career.

“I wanted to stay a Kansas City Royal for life and I didn’t want to go play for somebody else,” Gordon said.
