Korn Ferry Tour golfer breaks Wichita Open record at Crestview

Crestview Country Club is quickly becoming a favorite of Adrien Dumont de Chassart.

After finishing in a 3-way tie atop the leaderboard at the Wichita Open two years ago, the 25-year-old Belgium native set the tournament and course record in his return to the Korn Ferry Tour event on Thursday with an 11-under round of 59 to take the early lead in Round 1.

The 2023 Illinois graduate, who had Illinois men’s basketball coach Brad Underwood, a Kansas native, in attendance, racked up 12 birdies in his record-breaking round and was the first to crack 60 this season on the Korn Ferry Tour. He tied for the fourth-lowest round in tour history.

The previous Wichita Open record of 60 was shared by Justin Suh (2002) and Alejandro Tosti (2023).

“There is something I like about the course,” Dumont de Chassart said after the round.

Dumont de Chassart has been playing consistent golf as of late, notching five straight top-20 showings on the Korn Ferry Tour entering the week.

Not only has he positioned himself favorably for another high finish, Dumont de Chassart should be in the mix for his first victory of the year. He held a 4-stroke advantage over four other golfers tied at 7-under with about half of the field still out on the course as of early Thursday afternoon.

Dumont de Chassart opened his round with three straight birdies and four on the first five holes. After taking his only bogey of the round on No. 15, Dumont de Chassart rattled off eight birdies over the next 12 holes.

His average distance off the tee was 310.9 yards, as he hit 10 of 14 fairways and 14 of 18 greens in regulation. He also converted 3 of 4 scramble opportunities in the round.

“I had a good vibe and just trusted the process,” Dumont de Chassart said.
