Kansas City tournament set for Wichita State basketball non-conference schedule
The Wichita State men’s basketball team is set to return to Kansas City this coming season for the Shockers’ Thanksgiving week tournament.
The Shockers will be joined by Northern Iowa, San Francisco and Grand Canyon to play two games in two days at the T-Mobile Center in the 2022 Hall of Fame Classic on Nov. 21-22. All four teams finished in the top 100 of the NET rankings last season.
It will be the third appearance by WSU in the event, formerly known as the CBE Classic, and first since winning the 2013 title with wins over DePaul and BYU in Kansas City.
Bracket and television assignments will be released at a later date. Tickets go on sale in early September through the T-Mobile Center box office or online at www.halloffameweekend.com.
Kansas City might be the farthest road trip for WSU fans looking to catch all of the Shockers’ non-conference games for the 2022-23 season.
Outside of its trip to KC, WSU’s only other game on the schedule outside of Wichita will be a road trip to Bramlage Coliseum to play K-State on Dec. 3.
The Shockers’ home slate is highlighted by Missouri on Nov. 29 and Oklahoma State on Dec. 17. The latter matchup is likely to become the annual Intrust Bank Arena game in Wichita.
The rest of WSU’s schedule is filled by an array of buy games with $70,000 guarantees. It includes Alcorn State, Central Arkansas, Longwood, Mississippi Valley State, Tarleton State and Texas Southern.
With 11 games currently listed on the Shockers’ non-conference schedule, it is expected WSU will add two more games for 2022-23.
