Wichita State president Rick Muma has asked six members of the Wichita State community, including a handful of former Shocker athlete standouts, to help advise him in his search for the school’s next athletic director.

Muma said in a release on Friday morning that WSU still plans to use “an experienced search firm” to replace athletic director Darron Boatright, who was fired Wednesday, but the search advisory group will help advise him through the process. Sarah Adams is currently serving as the interim athletic director.

The group features three former star athletes for the Shockers who have become part of the Wichita business community: Nate Robertson, a former pitching standout at WSU who played nine years in the Major Leagues and now runs Candle Club; Angela Buckner, a former women’s basketball star who runs the Lynette Woodard Recreation Center; and Evan Wessel, a former men’s basketball player who works as a financial advisor at Stoutheart Financial Group.

The rest of the group is made up of John Rolfe, an alum and president and CEO of Wichita Regional Chamber of Commerce, Lynn Nichols, the chair-elect of the WSU Foundation Board and CEO of Yingling Aviation, and Clay Stoldt, a faculty representative and interim dean of the College of Applied Studies.

“These individuals all have a great passion for Wichita State, share our vision for leadership, and have the insight to assist me as I make a determination of what is next for Shocker Athletics,” Muma wrote in a release.
