This injured KU basketball guard nears full health. He could be Dajuan Harris’ backup
The Kansas men’s basketball team continues to get a little healthier.
According to coach Bill Self, transfer guard Shakeel Moore has no limitations moving forward. Moore (foot injury) played two minutes in KU’s win over NC State on Saturday.
Before Saturday, he’d only played 11 minutes over two games this season for the Jayhawks.
Moore played three seasons at Mississippi State before transferring to KU this offseason. He broke a bone in his foot during a Jayhawks summer practice. He eventually had surgery in September and missed two months of practice.
Self believes Moore will be a significant addition to the Jayhawks rotation.
“I actually see him being Dajuan (Harris)’ backup,” Self said, referencing the Jayhawks point guard. “Could we play without Dajuan or Shak in the game? We could, but I don’t think that’s the best lineup because he’s the closest thing that we have if we need somebody like Zeke (Mayo) playing off-ball some. I see it becoming a little clearer if in fact you’ve got basically two guys sharing that spot, maybe playing together a little bit.
“That kind of defines Zeke and Diggy (Coit)’s role a little bit more easily, too. I think having Shak around and potentially, I’m not going to say he is, but potentially an elite perimeter defender and an elite athlete, I think helps us.”
Moore averaged 8.0 points a game while shooting 47% from the field last season at MSU.
The Jayhawks are set to play Brown on Sunday (2 p.m. at Allen Fieldhouse) to cap off their non-conference schedule.
