Kansas football 2023 schedule release: Who the Jayhawks will play in Big 12 Conference

The day Jayhawk fans have been waiting for has finally arrived.
The Big 12 released its full conference football schedule on Tuesday. The Jayhawks now know who they will be facing in 2023, a year in which newcomers BYU, Cincinnati, Houston and UCF will join the Big 12 conference.
Last season, Kansas (6-7, 3-6 Big 12) went to the Liberty Bowl, its first bowl game since 2008. Ultimately, KU lost 55-53 in a triple-overtime thriller to Arkansas at Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium.
The Jayhawks started the season 5-0 but lost six of their last seven regular-season games to tie for seventh in the conference with Oklahoma and West Virginia. KU lost 47-27 in its regular-season finale to in-state rival and eventual conference champion K-State.
K-State emerged as the Big 12 champion after defeating TCU in the title game, while the Horned Frogs were off to the College Football Playoff. They defeated Michigan 51-45 in the semifinal round before falling to Georgia 65-7 in the national title game.
Regarding the Big 12’s newcomers, all four teams finished above .500 last season. Three teams come from the American Athletic Conference: UCF, Houston and Cincinnati. BYU was without a conference and was an independent.
It’s the second time in the conference’s 26 years of existence that new members were added — and first since West Virginia and TCU joined.
According to reports, Oklahoma and Texas will likely leave the conference and join the SEC after the 2023-24 sports season — a year earlier than anticipated. It’s possible that could have led to delays in the scheduling process, while the league figured out a schedule that worked for everyone.
