Kansas Jayhawks’ Jalen Wilson wins Big 12 men’s basketball honor after 40-point week
Kansas redshirt sophomore forward Jalen Wilson has been chosen Big 12 men’s basketball player of the week for his production in games against Texas and Oklahoma a week ago, the conference announced Monday.
This is the second career Big 12 honor for Wilson as he was the Big 12 newcomer of the week on Feb. 15, 2021. He was voted player of the week by a media panel that covers the league.
The Denton, Texas native had 18 points on 6-of-10 shooting with 11 rebounds last Monday in a loss at Texas. He scored 22 points on 8-of-12 shooting with nine boards in a home win Saturday against Oklahoma, The 22 points were his second-most in a game this season (23 vs. West Virginia on Jan. 15). For the week, he averaged 20.0 points and 10.0 rebounds, and was 14-for-22 (63.6%) from the field.
Wilson has averaged 15.6 points per game and 8.7 rebounds per game in his last nine games. His 7.1 rebound average ranks third in the Big 12.
Senior guard Ochai Agbaji has been named Big 12 player of the week three times this season (Nov. 15, Jan. 17, Jan. 24). Junior guard Christian Braun was named player of the week on Dec. 6, 2021.
