Kansas Jayhawks men’s basketball moves up in in Associated Press Top 25 poll
Kansas, which lost to Texas by three points on the road last Monday then defeated Oklahoma by two points at home on Saturday, has moved from No. 8 to No. 6 in this week’s Associated Press men’s college basketball poll.
Previous No. 2 Gonzaga (21-2) grasped the top spot in the poll from Auburn, which lost to Arkansas last week and fell to No. 2. The Bulldogs received 56 first-place votes and tallied 1,496 points. Auburn (23-2) received four firsts and totaled 1,413 points.
Arizona (22-2) is ranked third this week followed by Kentucky (21-4), Purdue (22-4), Kansas (20-4), Baylor (21-4), Providence (21-2), Duke (21-4), Villanova (19-6), Texas Tech (19-6), Illinois (18-6), UCLA (17-5), Houston (20-4), Wisconsin (19-5), Tennessee (18-6), USC (21-4), Ohio State (15-6), Michigan State (18-6), Texas (18-7), Murray State (24-2), Wyoming (21-3), Arkansas (19-6), UConn (17-7) and Alabama (16-9).
Others receiving votes: Marquette, Xavier, Colorado State, Saint Mary’s, LSU, Iowa, Notre Dame, SMU, Rutgers, Virginia, Miami (Florida), Boise State, Toledo, South Dakota State, Belmont, San Francisco, Vermont and Wake Forest.
Gonzaga, last year’s NCAA runner-up, was preseason No. 1 and kept the No. 1 spot in the poll for three weeks before dropping following a loss to Duke. Gonzaga was also No. 1 in mid-January before being passed by Auburn.
The Jayhawks will meet unranked Oklahoma State at 8 p.m. Monday at Allen Fieldhouse.
