Kansas football coach Lance Leipold is rebuilding his roster through Big Ten resources.

On Monday, KU added its third transfer from the conference, landing 6-foot-3 redshirt sophomore linebacker/safety Craig Young from Ohio State.

Young visited KU’s campus last week and met with coaches then.

“Getting to know them was great,” Young told Jon Kirby of JayhawkSlant.com. “They were great and high character. They showed me what’s real. They showed me what they are building there and everything. The visit was so crazy, and it was so unbelievable. It was just good, and I just attached, and I wanted to be a part of the culture that they are building. I feel like the Jayhawks have a chance to go win.”

Young played 26 games for the Buckeyes the last three seasons, including all 12 contests in 2021. He recorded 15 tackles last season, and in his 138 defensive snaps, posted a 72.1 Pro Football Focus grade — sixth-highest on the defense among players on Ohio State with at least 100 plays.

Out of high school, Young was ranked the 49th-best athlete by Rivals in the class of 2019.

In the last seven days, KU has also received commitments from Nebraska running back Sevion Morrison and Michigan State cornerback Kalon Gervin.

The Jayhawks received more good news Monday in addition to Young.

For one, they received a commitment from a high school quarterback, as 6-foot-3 Ethan Vasko announced via social media he would be attending KU.

Vasko, a Rivals two-star out of Chesapeake, Virginia, previously was committed to Old Dominion.

“I know he (KU quarterback coach Jim Zebrowski) is a great coach, and it seems like everywhere he and Coach Leipold go, they always find a way to win,” Vasko told JayhawkSlant. “They turn around programs, and I want to be a part of that.”

KU picked up additional announced commitments Monday from Buffalo offensive line transfer Nolan Gorczyca and Mulvane, Kansas, prep safety Mason Ellis.
