Kansas extends basketball scholarship offer to Blue Valley High junior Aidan Shaw
Aidan Shaw, a 6-foot-8, 190-pound junior small forward from Blue Valley High School, has been offered a scholarship by University of Kansas basketball coach Bill Self, Shaw reported on Twitter.
Shaw, the No. 69-ranked player in the recruiting Class of 2022 by Rivals.com, is being recruited by KU, Kansas State, Missouri, Wichita State, Oklahoma State, Iowa State, Nebraska, Vanderbilt, Stanford, Purdue, Arkansas, Illinois, Creighton, BYU, Cal, Iowa, USC, TCU and others.
“Proud and thankful to receive an offer from University of Kansas,” Shaw, who has a perfect 4.0 grade point average, wrote on Twitter.
Shaw — he plays for the Mokan Basketball AAU program — told The Star that Self extended the offer Thursday afternoon.
“He said they wanted me and I would make a big impact,” Shaw told The Star in a Twitter direct message. “He said my future was bright. I’m excited about the offer. It’s an exceptional program.”
In a recent interview, Shaw told Rivals.com: “They (KU coaches) keep in contact with me. I’ve been texting the coaches and they have been texting me which has been really good. We are building a relationship. The team has a chemistry.”
Shaw added: “As a kid, everybody looks at the Dukes and Kentuckys and all the big schools. Now I’m looking for some chemistry and an opportunity to show what I have and really fit in with a team to try and win a championship. I’m just taking it head on, it has been really fun with coaches calling and texting so we will see what happens.”
Prephoops.com wrote this of Shaw’s game: “A wing, Shaw is an aggressive defender who works hard on pushing his opponents away from the middle of the court and is a terrific shot blocker. At the offensive end, he has a well-rounded skill set and can handle the ball and shoot from distance. He has a quick release and brings intensity to the court.”
Noted Eric Bossi of Rivals.com: “The rising junior at Stillwell (Kan.) Blue Valley High School is a big-time athlete with tremendous size and versatility. College coaches have taken notice of Shaw. His phone has been ringing consistently since schools could contact him directly on June 15th.”
