KU basketball has top-10 recruiting class for 2021 with one scholarship to give
Kansas basketball’s recruiting Class of 2021 is currently ranked No. 10 in the country by Rivals.com, the website reported Sunday.
The Jayhawks, who have a minimum of three scholarships to give to replace seniors Marcus Garrett, Mitch Lightfoot and Silvio De Sousa (more if any non-seniors turn pro), currently have a two-player class of Zach Clemence and K.J. Adams.
Clemence is a 6-10 senior forward from Sunrise Christian Academy in Bel Aire, Kansas and Adams is a 6-6 senior forward from Westlake High in Austin, Texas.
Clemence is ranked No. 29 in the 2021 class by Rivals.com; Adams is ranked No. 84.
The Jayhawks also have an incoming walk-on in Keon Coleman, a 6-4 football defensive back/basketball guard from from Opelousas (Louisiana) High School.
Florida State, which Sunday received a commitment from No. 21-ranked Jalen Warley, currently has the No. 1 class, followed by Villanova, Baylor, UCLA, Ohio State, Michigan State, UConn, USC, Michigan and KU.
The rankings will change as teams receive commitments from additional players.
Holmes in no hurry to choose school
DaRon Holmes, a 6-8, 195-pound senior forward from Montverde (Florida) Academy, will choose a college “by March or early April,” he told Stockrisers.com on Friday.
Holmes, the No. 30-ranked player in the recruiting Class of 2021 by Rivals.com, currently is considering Kansas, Arizona, Arkansas, Cal, Dayton, Marquette, Notre Dame, USC, Oregon, Tennessee and others.
“Holmes says that his favorite player in the NBA is easily Raptors star Pascal Siakam. Both players have a similar skillset,” wrote Jake Weingarten of Stockrisers.com. “Holmes isn’t your ordinary prospect. He can run the floor in transition, he’s unselfish, can make plays all over the offensive end, etc. It’s safe to say one school will get lucky.”
Ayomide to begin Zoom calls with coaches
Sam Ayomide, a 6-11, 255-pound senior center from Phelps School in Malvern, Pennsylvania, who is ranked No. 143 in the recruiting class of 2021 by Rivals.com, told Stockrisers.com he’s expecting to hold a Zoom recruiting call with KU coaches in the near future. He’s also being recruited by Temple, VCU, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest, Texas A&M, LSU, La Salle, Providence, Memphis, Illinois, Seton Hall, TCU and others.
