  • K-State lands DT Austin Ramsey from Kentucky to shore up defensive line depth
  • Ramsey brings 6-4, 303-pound size and SEC experience to K-State rotation
  • K-State now lists 10 incoming transfers while several linemen depart via portal

One of the most important positions that new Kansas State football coach Collin Klein needs to address during this transfer cycle is defensive line.

The Wildcats have lost several of their best defensive tackles and edge rushers since the regular season came to an end last month. Two of them — Chiddi Obiazor and Tobi Osunsanmi — were skilled enough to find new homes at Indiana for next season. Replacing that kind of talent isn’t easy.

But K-State took a step in the right direction on Tuesday when it gained a commitment from Austin Ramsey, a 6-foot-4 and 303-pound defensive tackle transfer from Kentucky.

Ramsey has ideal size for his position in the middle of any defensive line. So much so, that he started out his college football career as an offensive lineman and switched to the other side of the ball after one season.

He is a redshirt freshman who made five tackles and a sack last season while playing in the SEC.

Arkansas and Oklahoma were also interested in him out of the transfer portal, but K-State was able to secure his services.

With Ramsey on board, the Wildcats now have 10 incoming transfers lined up for next season.
