Kansas State gains commitment from Louisiana Tech football transfer Mekhi Mason

One of the best linebackers who played in Conference USA last season is on his way to Kansas State.

Mekhi Mason, a 6-foot-2 and 230-pound defender who piled up 68 tackles for Louisiana Tech as a junior, has committed to play for Collin Klein and the Wildcats.

His agent shared the news with media outlets Tuesday, less than 24 hours after K-State landed seven transfers on an eventful day in Manhattan.

Mason began his college football career at Syracuse, but he found success over the past two seasons at Louisiana Tech. Two years ago, he made 28 tackles while playing in all 12 games for the Bulldogs. This season, he earned a larger role. Of his 68 tackles, 14.5 of them went for a loss and 3.5 of them were sacks. He also broke up four passes.

He had a season-high 11 tackles in a game against LSU.

Conference USA named him to its all-league second team at the conclusion of the season.

He will look to compete for a starting role in the middle of K-State’s defense as the Wildcats work to replace the loss of top linebacker Austin Romaine to Texas Tech.
