- Klein retained most staff; offensive coordinator position remains open.
Collin Klein has decided to retain assistant coach Brian Lepak as a member of his inaugural football staff at Kansas State.
But Lepak will shift to a new role.
Lepak coached K-State’s offensive line last season. Starting next season, he will be in charge of the tight ends.
“I am excited to continue to represent Kansas State University under Coach Klein’s leadership,” Lepak said in a statement. “I look forward to implementing Coach Klein’s vision and build on the tradition of this program.”
Lepak has previous experience coaching tight ends. Since arriving in Manhattan as a quality control coach on offense in 2021, he has coached several positions on that side of the ball, including tight ends from 2022 to 2024.
Lepak and Klein worked together for three seasons when they were both assistants under former head coach Chris Klieman, including 2022 when the Wildcats won a Big 12 championship.
During that time, Lepak helped develop Ben Sinnott from a walk-on to an NFL tight end.
“Brian has worked tirelessly for this program since he has been here,” Klein said. “He is detailed, caring, competitive and one of the smartest coaches I have worked with at K-State. I am excited to have him continue to develop our tight ends.”
K-State’s coaching staff is nearly complete.
The only major opening that remains is the offensive coordinator position. It will be interesting to see who Klein tabs for that role, as he may choose to call plays himself next season.
