One of Kansas State’s most prominent outgoing transfers will play for a different Big 12 football team next season.

Austin Romaine, a talented junior linebacker who made 66 tackles for the Wildcats last year, has announced he is transferring to Texas Tech.

The 6-foot-2 and 245-pound defender from Hillsboro made 184 tackles during his time with the Wildcats. He earned several all-conference honors along the way.

But now he is ready to join the top defense in the conference and play for the Red Raiders as a senior.

Romaine thanked K-State and former head coach Chris Klieman for helping him achieve his football dreams.

“When I arrived in Manhattan, I had no idea how much it would shape me,” Romaine wrote on social media. “The work put in, the lessons learned and the pride I felt wearing purple. I’m especially grateful to Coach Klieman and the staff for taking a chance on me and giving me my opportunity at the Power 4 level.

“That belief changed my path and gave me the chance to compete and grow at the highest level. I’ll always respect and appreciate them for that.”

Romaine only played in nine games this past season before his playing time was cut short with an injury to his hand, which required surgery. His final game in a K-State football uniform coincidentally came against Texas Tech. He made 11 tackles and grabbed an interception in that game.

He is not the only former K-State football player who is heading to a prominent new team.

Qua Moss, a skilled defensive back who helped the Wildcats in a variety of ways last season, has announced a transfer to Tennessee.

Tobi Osunsanmi, a former defensive end who is originally from Wichita, has reportedly committed to Indiana.
