The first members of Collin Klein’s football staff have arrived at Bill Snyder Family Stadium.
Trey Scott, a former reserve quarterback at K-State, has been hired as the team’s new general manager.
He is joined by Stanton Weber, a former K-State wide receiver, who is set to take over as the program’s special teams coordinator.
Weber was an obvious choice to coach special teams for the Wildcats. Not only does he have a long history with Klein, the new head coach, but he has found success at several spots as a special teams expert. He spent the past three seasons at Toledo. Before that, he worked as an assistant at South Carolina and K-State.
“We are so grateful for the opportunity from Coach Klein to return home,” Weber said in a statement. “I am proud to have grown up in this family and humbled by the responsibility to serve K-State. It is the honor of a lifetime.”
Weber played in 46 career games for the Wildcats and was a team captain in 2015.
His father, Stan, works as lead analyst for the K-State radio team. His brother, Landry, also played football for K-State. His sister, McKenzi, played volleyball for the Wildcats.
“Stanton is one of the most competitive individuals I have ever met,” Klein said in a statement. “He strives for excellence in everything he does. He builds great relationships and has worked himself into being one of the best special teams coordinators in the country.”
Scott will be responsible for identifying recruits and transfers who could be good fits for the Wildcats, maintaining the roster and managing player salaries in the revenue-sharing era of college football.
He has 11 of years of experience working in player personnel with different NFL teams. He has also spent time as a coach and an agent before deciding to return to his alma mater for this opportunity.
“I have had a long career in football, but this is different,” Scott said in a statement. “This is family, and this is home. I am excited to work with quality people and be aggressive in this era of opportunity. Thank you to Coach Klein for trusting me to help advance our program.”
It didn’t take Klein long to identify Scott as a prospective member of his inaugural staff in Manhattan.
“Trey is a huge part of where we are going to take K-State in the future,” Klein said in a statement. “With his NFL experience and roster management background, along with how he builds relationships, he is the perfect fit.”
After concluding his playing days as a K-State quarterback in 2010, Scott got his start in professional football as a pro personnel assistant with the Washington Redskins in 2011. He later worked for the Oakland Raiders in 2012 and moved to Las Vegas when the franchise relocated there in 2020.
Starting as a Midwest scout of the Raiders, Scott earned multiple promotions, culminating with the title of assistant director of player personnel.
Scott left the Raiders in 2022 to lead the coaching and executives division of Rep 1 Sports before the company was acquired by Excel Sports Management in 2023.
He is a native of Shawnee and a product of Mill Valley High School.
