Kansas State fans go all out to distract Cowboys at foul line for free breadsticks

The loudest moment of Kansas State’s 85-57 victory over Oklahoma State on Wednesday didn’t come after a vicious dunk or a long 3-pointer from the Wildcats.

Instead, the decibel levels inside Bramlage Coliseum peaked when Oklahoma State forward Pat Suemnick stepped to the free-throw line for a pair of foul shots midway through the second half.

That will come as a surprise to many, seeing as how the Wildcats were leading by 27 points at the time and the outcome of the game was already decided. But every free throw from an opposing player is of the utmost importance to K-State basketball fans in the second half of home games.

Why? Because they win free breadsticks from Pizza Hut whenever a player from the visiting team misses both shots on a trip to the foul line.

K-State fans wanted their free food when Suemnick was awarded a pair of free throws Wednesday, and the student section roared in an attempt to distract him. He missed his first shot off the front of the rim and the home crowd cheered with approval.

They could taste the breadsticks. So they got even louder when he put up his second shot. The attempt rattled around the rim until K-State wing Mobi Ikegwuruka slapped it away for a rebound.

“Breadsticks for all in the Little Apple,” proclaimed CBS Sports Network announcer Chris Lewis on the TV broadcast.

K-State fans left Bramlage Coliseum with two things to celebrate — a big win and free food.
