One of the best football recruits in the Sunflower State only needed three words to announce his college commitment.

“I’m staying home.”

Just like that, Kaedin Massey let the world know that he intended to play for Kansas State. The 6-foot-8 offensive lineman from Lyndon chose the Wildcats over Nebraska, Oklahoma and Mississippi during a ceremony at his high school on Thursday.

The three-star prospect held more than a dozen scholarships from power-conference schools and he will have an opportunity to contribute at left tackle or right tackle after he arrives in Manhattan.

“It was really hard to keep it a secret for this long,” Massey told reporters following his announcement. “I kind of made the decision a day or two ago. It feels so good now. I can yell it to the world.”

Massey said he seriously considered all four of his finalists, but the family atmosphere he experienced at K-State set the Wildcats apart. He also enjoyed spending time with freshman quarterback Avery Johnson and senior lineman Cooper Beebe during his official visit to the school.

“I love the coaches and I love the program,” Massey said. “I spent a good time with the other recruits there and got along with them greatly. The academic side is what I wanted it to be. It just seemed like the right decision to stay home.”

Other schools that have recruited him are Duke, Iowa State, Kansas, Michigan State, Minnesota, Missouri, Northwestern, Oklahoma State and Stanford.

Massey is a consensus top-five recruit in the Sunflower State for the class of 2024. He is the No. 1 rated in-state prospect according to 247Sports. Both On3 and Rivals have him a tad lower at No. 3.

In any case, he will be a welcome addition for the Wildcats when he trades in his high school colors for purple.

He is the third in-state recruit to choose the Wildcats this cycle. They have already locked up commitments from a pair of other local products in Mill Valley offensive lineman Gus Hawkins and Blue Valley running back John Price.

Massey is excited to join the recruiting class.

“It’s great to see we have probably the best recruiting class for offensive linemen that I have ever seen,” Massey said. “It’s great to already have a good relationship with those players.”

Perhaps landing Massey will give K-State some recruiting momentum before a few other key targets make their decisions. Chris Klieman’s team is also in the running for Junction City linebacker Michael Boganowski and Iowa offensive lineman Grant Brix.
