About Iowa State (12-18, 5-12 Big 12): It’s been a disappointing season for the Cyclones. Iowa State was one of the most competitive teams in the conference until star guard Tyrese Haliburton broke his wrist against K-State earlier this season. The Cyclones have won some home games without him, but they have struggled mightily on the road. Rasir Bolton is their new go-to scorer without Haliburton. Solomon Young put on a clinic against K-State’s big men in the first meeting between these teams, as he has 20 points and three rebounds.
About Kansas State (9-21, 2-15): The Wildcats need to win on Saturday to keep their long streak of winning records at home alive. K-State has finished with a winning record at home in 73 consecutive seasons, dating to 1946. That, along with senior day, will give this team something tangible to play for. K-State will hope for a better start against the Cyclones than they had in their first matchup. Iowa State raced to a 21-point lead in the first half of that game and never looked back.
Prediction: Recent results suggest Iowa State should win this game, as the Cyclones defeated K-State earlier this season and the Wildcats are riding a 10-game losing streak.
But the emotions involved with senior day may be enough to swing this game K-State’s way. Xavier Sneed and Makol Mawien have been part of some tremendous seasons with the Wildcats. If anyone deserves a victory in their final home game at K-State, it’s probably them. Here’s guessing K-State plays one of its best games of the season.
Iowa State has also lost four straight road games by double digits.
K-State 66, Iowa State 62.
