Bitter cold will linger in Wichita & more snow could be coming. Here are details
The first winter storm in Wichita is over, but snow and bitter cold will linger.
And another round of snow could come later this week.
The high for Monday is 14 degrees, with a wind chill value of -3. That will drop to a low of 2 degrees with a wind chill of -5 at night.
Tuesday is forecast to have a mostly sunny high near 20, with a wind chill of -4. Wednesday could see a sunny high near 24, a detailed forecast shows.
Wednesday will see a bit of a warm up with a sunny high near 22, and Thursday even sunnier at 30.
An AccuWeather forecast says blasts of cold air are expected to affect Wichita and portions of the Midwest and eastern U.S. through Jan. 12.
“After a weekend bundle of wintry precipitation, calm weather is expected this week,” the National Weather Service in Wichita said in a social media post Monday. “Dangerous morning wind chills are expected for Tuesday and Wednesday, with afternoon highs only in the teens and 20s.”
Another winter storm?
Another round of snow could hit Wichita starting late Thursday night into Friday, but the forecast is still tentative.
A NWS forecast shows a 30% chance of snow before midnight on Thursday.
“We are watching a system that could impact the area late Thursday night into Friday, and then bring some some light snow to the area. But there’s quite a bit of uncertainty with that at this time,” National Weather Service meteorologist Mick McGuire said Monday. “It doesn’t look like a really big player at this time.”
An AccuWeather weather alert calls for snow in Wichita starting as early as Wednesday and lasting into Friday. A Thursday night forecast calls for “a little snow at times, accumulating a coating to an inch.”
