A foggy Christmas is expected in Wichita. Take a look at the full weather forecast
Fog starting Christmas Eve night is expected to continue into Christmas Day in Wichita, according to the National Weather Service.
While a white Christmas isn’t expected for the holiday, the day will most likely be cloudy throughout with dense fog possible before 10 a.m.
“It’s not going to be a white Christmas, it’s not going to be a blue Christmas, it’s going to be a gray Christmas,” said Christ Jakub, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service’s Wichita office.
The National Weather Service forecast shows a high around 48 and a low around 43 with calm winds throughout Wednesday.
“Our typical high this time of year is 44, so we’re just slightly above normal,” Jakub said.
2023’s Christmas Day saw a high of 35, while last Christmas Eve’s high was a warm 58 in Wichita.
If you’re planning on traveling to see family on Christmas morning, the fog may reduce visibility, so be sure to take precautions, like driving slowly and adding extra time to your trip in case. Be sure to also only use low-beam headlights and leave enough distance between you and the vehicle in front of you.
If the visibility is extra difficult, the National Weather Service recommends to turn on your hazard lights to be more visible to those around you.
Looking ahead, there’s a 30% chance of showers Thursday, Dec. 26, with a high around 52. The chance of showers returns Friday evening after a cloudy day, while the rest of the week is expected to see clear, sunny skies, according to the National Weather Service.
The highest high expected from Tuesday through Monday is Saturday, with a high of around 58. The lowest low is around 37, which is expected Sunday, according to the seven-day forecast.
