It’ll be a chilly Thanksgiving morning in Wichita, but will the city finally see its first snow?

“It’s possible that we could see some frosty out there in the morning … but then no snow is anticipated at all for tomorrow or beyond that,” said Vanessa Pearce, a forecaster with the National Weather Service.

National Weather Service’s Wichita forecast shows a sunny day Thursday with a high of 42 and a low of 23. Light wind is also expected through the day.

For those traveling to see family and friends on Thanksgiving, Pearce said it’ll be a slow day precipitation-wise, but you should still be prepared for colder temps.

“[Make] certain to cover up a little bit,” Pearce said. “We were warm for a good amount of time, and it’s only been this week that we’ve dropped down to the lower values. So just a reminder, we’re in the season, though. It’s not completely out of the realm.”

There are some chances of rainfall and some flurries Wednesday, however, according to a social media post by the National Weather Service.

When will Wichita see its first snow?

The average first snowfall is Dec. 3 in Wichita, Pearce said. But the last couple of years have seen it even earlier.

“The previous couple years, you know we had some snow earlier in the latter parts of October and even November, but this year, we didn’t get in on that. We were too warm,” Pearce said.

As of now, it’s a mystery when Wichita could see snowfall.

“We don’t have any chances at this time, [but] our forecast only goes out seven days,” Pearce said.
