Thunderstorms, hail expected in Wichita before things clear up. Here’s the timing of it
A severe weather mix of thunderstorms and hail is forecast to move into the Wichita area starting as early as Thursday afternoon.
That weather is expected to move in around 4 p.m. or a little before that, National Weather Service Wichita meteorologist Scott Smith said.
A National Weather Service Hazardous Weather Outlook describes strong to severe storms, up to a half-dollar sized hail and the chance for a brief tornado for Wichita and other areas of south central and southeast Kansas.
Thursday afternoon stands at a 40 percent chance for showers and thunderstorms. That increases to a 60 percent chance at night, according to a detailed NWS forecast.
Storms are expected to taper off at around 11 p.m. and mostly move into southeast Kansas, but expected to linger into Friday, Smith said.
The NWS said no severe weather is expected Friday, which is forecast to have a high of 48 with a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms.
“Just lingering showers and storms for tomorrow,” Smith said. “Until finally that all clears out for the weekend.”
Saturday is expected to see a sunny high of 51 and Sunday a sunny high of 63, a forecast shows.
