Thursday’s morning snowfall in Wichita quickly surpassed the previous March 31 record of 0.8 inches set in 1984, according to National Weather Service data.

NWS Wichita said on Twitter that snowfall through 9 a.m. had measured 2.4 inches at the Wichita Dwight D. Eisenhower National Airport. Meteorologist Mick McGuire said the snow started at around 5 a.m. and the snow should mostly be done in Sedgwick County by 10 a.m.

Weather records in Wichita have been kept since 1888, making Thursday’s snowfall the highest March 31 snowfall in more than 130 years. Wichita has set other record snowfalls this year, including one on Feb. 2 and another on Feb. 17.
