The Wichita area is under a Winter Weather Advisory until midnight tonight. A wintry mix of sleet, snow and rain is making its way along and west of the Kansas Turnpike, according to the National Weather Service in Wichita.

Snow and sleet amounts will be around 2 inches in the central and south central regions of the state, the advisory reads.

“Periods of thunder will occur with the mix of snow and sleet creating moderate to heavy precipitation at times,” the advisory explains.

Drivers are advised to use caution as the weather event could cause “possible slippery road conditions.”

Moderate to heavy to sleet and snow could reduce visibilities to less than a mile at times,” the advisory said.
