Bundle up, Wichita: Bitter cold wind chills Wednesday, and then some snow

It felt bitter cold when you stepped out the door Wednesday morning. The National Weather Service in Wichita says wind chills are sitting between 15 to 25 below zero.

There is also a chance of returning snow. Meteorologist Roger Martin says the Wichita area could see light snow amounts less than an inch starting around midnight.

“It’s going to be that kind of dry snow, so it’ll probably just blow around a lot. We’re not looking at any sort of snow like what we had with the last event,” Martin said.

He says the snow is expected to stop around noon on Thursday.

Wind chill values will continue to be cold Thursday, about 5 below zero. Those who are spending any time outside are advised to dress in layers because of increased hypothermia risks, Martin said.

However, relief from the bitter cold is on the way.

Martin said temperatures could jump back up into the 40s by this weekend, with a chance of 60 on Sunday.
