Wichita and suburban schools

The Wichita school district said in an email that all schools and administrative offices will be closed Feb. 17.

“Non-attendance centers will also be closed (AMAC, SSC, IST, Dunbar and ISC). All after-school activities and practices Thursday are canceled,” said Susan Arensman, USD 259 news and media relations manager.

Classes were already scheduled to not be held Friday and Monday, based on the district’s academic calendar. Monday is President’s Day.

Employees that still have to report to work:

  • Select employees as designated by the superintendent. Those employees will be contacted directly.
  • Select School Service Center dispatch and road security.
  • Snow removal crew members, who will be notified by their supervisor.

Arensman said high school seniors will need to make up for lost days due to “snow, broken water mains and in several cases of COVID-related shut down.”

“Each high school has already developed a plan to accomplish this work. For all other schools, we will continue to carefully review what the impact of any future closures may have,” Arensman said.

The Maize school district said in an email that classes have been canceled Feb. 17. Wichita Catholic schools also are closed Thursday.

Wichita State University and WSU Tech

In-person classes have been suspended for both institutions.

WSU Tech classes will be held remotely. WSU instructors are encouraged to hold class remotely as well. Students are advised to check their school email and Blackboard for information regarding classes.
