Updated 7 p.m.: Snow-related closures in the Wichita area

Here are places that plan to be closed Wednesday because of impending snow.

Wichita schools

Wichita public and Catholic schools will have a snow day on Wednesday.

Both organizations made the announcement ahead of the 4-7 inches of snow expected to start falling Tuesday night and continue Wednesday. Wichita-based National Weather Service meteorologist Chris Jakub said between 2-4 inches of snow should be on the ground when people wake up Wednesday morning.

Wichita Public Schools is the largest district in the state with roughly 47,200 students.

“School will be cancelled Wednesday, February 2 due to anticipated snow accumulation and dangerous road conditions,” the district said. “All schools and non-attendance centers (AMAC, SSC, IST, Dunbar and ISC) will be closed. This includes cancellation of all after-school activities and practices.”

Some employees at the school service center, working road security or ones designated by the superintendent will still have to work, the district said in a news release.

Any potential delays or cancellations for Thursday will be posted on usd259.org.
