Cool temperatures in Wichita break 72-year-old record for coldest daily high, NWS says
A 72-year-old weather record in Wichita was broken on a dreary, rainy Monday to start a wet week.
The chilly temperatures across the region set records for coldest daily highs, the National Weather Service office in Wichita said in a tweet. The high in Wichita was 50 degrees on Monday, breaking the previous daily high by 3 degrees, which was set in 1948. Records were also set in Salina, Chanute and Russell.
The normal high temperature in Wichita for this time of year is 75 degrees.
NWS Wichita’s forecasts for the city predict a chance for rain every day through Sunday.
An increased risk of severe weather is expected Wednesday through Saturday.
