There is a chance for rain every day this week in Wichita, weather forecasters predict.

The National Weather Service seven-day forecast for Wichita as of Sunday night details the chance for rain for the week. The weather service said on Twitter that several rounds of severe weather are possible from Wednesday through at least Friday.

There is a 50% chance of rain Sunday night into Monday. Monday has an 80% chance of rain and a 90% chance for Monday night into Tuesday.

NWS Wichita said in a tweet that widespread rainfall during that time will be heaviest Monday night and focused over southern Kansas. Occasional lightning strikes are expected, but severe weather is not anticipated. More than an inch of rain is expected in Wichita during that time.

Weather service officials said on Twitter that several records in the area are in jeopardy on Monday. Specifically, the expected high temperature in the city is 47 degrees, which would break the record for coolest high. The current record for the coolest high on May 11 is 53 degrees, which was set in 1948.

Tuesday has a 40% chance of rain with a 50% chance for Tuesday night into Wednesday, the weather service predicts.

Wednesday has a 20% chance of rain followed by a 30% chance for Wednesday night into Thursday.

Thursday does not have any rain forecast during the day, but there is a 40% chance for Thursday night into Friday.

Friday has a 30% chance for rain and a 60% chance for Friday night into Saturday.

Saturday has a 50% chance for rain and a 30% chance for Saturday night into Sunday.

Sunday has a 20% chance for rain.

The year has been wetter than normal. As of Sunday, 10.46 inches of precipitation had fallen in the city in 2020. The normal is 8.63 inches. At this time last year, 11.36 inches of precipitation had fallen.
