Hot temperatures in Wichita on Sunday break 96-year-old National Weather Service record

Hot temperatures in Wichita on Sunday broke a 96-year-old National Weather Service record, and a second 1-year-old record may also be broken.

The thermometer at the NWS Wichita office at Eisenhower National Airport hit 74 degrees at around 2:15 p.m. That broke the Feb. 2 daily high temperature record of 73 degrees set in 1924.

The normal high temperature in Wichita for this time of year is around 44 degrees, weather service meteorologists said.

The weather service said that as of 2 p.m. on Super Bowl Sunday, the temperature in Miami, Florida, was 66 degrees. The Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers are set to play at 5:30 p.m.

The warmest low temperature record may also be broken. The record is 46 degrees set in 2019.
