Notice a problem with a gas pump in Kansas? Here’s how to file a complaint
If you’re filling up your vehicle at a Kansas gas station and notice a problem with the fuel pump, state officials say you should report it immediately.
Pump problems could include receiving less fuel than you paid for, quality issues with the fuel, the price not matching what was advertised or equipment failures.
Inspectors with the Kansas Department of Agriculture’s Division of Weights and Measures inspect every gas pump in the state every 18 months, but sometimes pumps fail in between those regular inspections.
“Common reasons a pump might fail is user requirement rejections which include but are not limited to maintenance of equipment, product storage identification, price posting/advertised pricing, product labeling, or dispenser fails to print receipt,” a gas pump program manager told The Wichita Eagle.
How to report gas pump issues
“If you think you have received less fuel than you paid for, or you think there is a quality problem with fuel you have purchased, report it immediately,” state officials said.
You should report issues with Kansas gas pumps to the KDA’s Division of Weights and Measures.
To report a pump problem, you may call 785-564-6681 or complete the online complaint form.
Customers have the option to remain anonymous when filing a complaint, or you may provide your information to be informed on the outcome of the investigation.
When submitting a complaint, you’ll be asked for the following information:

Following your complaint, an inspector will investigate the issue. If a pump does not meet state requirements, the business will have 30 days to complete repairs or request an extension. Following the 30-day period, an inspector will confirm if repairs were made.
