One company’s new ranking means bad news for anyone dating in Kansas.

WalletHub just released its ranking of the best and worst states for singles, and Kansas is low on the list.

The personal finance website compiled the list by looking at a number of factors across three topics: dating opportunities (which covers the number of single people in the state), dating economics (the price it would be to go on dates) and romance and fun (activities available for dates.)

“In states with a low cost of living, for instance, your income might stretch a lot further, which means cheaper or more frequent dates. That’s an attractive option considering current inflation levels,” WalletHub’s website reads.

“If you’re more financially stable, though, you might appreciate a state with more attractions so both you and your potential other half can enjoy unique dates. Dating is also a numbers game, so a state with a higher proportion of single adults automatically improves your prospects.”

Kansas ranked 43rd on the list — right above South Dakota and right below South Carolina.

The state especially ranked low on share of single adults and single gender balance, WalletHub says. Kansas made it to the five lowest spots on both of those categories.

But the company didn’t stop there.

Looking at Wichita specifically, the city was ranked 57th out of 182 cities.

To find the best cities, WalletHub looked at percentage of singles, gender balance and online dating availability as well as other specific factors like costs of restaurant meals, nightlife, movie costs and beer and wine costs.

Wichita ranked better than the other Kansas city on the list, Overland Park, which sat at 105th. Kansas City, Missouri, ranked 104th.

Wichita ranked right below Milwaukee and right above Des Moines, Iowa.
