It was built during the Cold War for nuclear missiles. Now it’s on sale in rural Kansas
If you’re in the market for a missile silo, now’s your lucky day.
That’s because there’s one for sale in Allen, Kansas, for $749,000. The property, which was also featured on Zillow Gone Wild’s social media pages, boasts both a nuclear missile base and bunker on a secluded 23 acres of land.
“Imagine the peace of mind knowing that your fortress is securely nestled half a mile off a paved road, ensuring both privacy and accessibility when needed,” the Zillow listing reads.
The property is listed by RE/MAX of Kansas-Missouri on land about an hour and a half northeast of Wichita.
The silo was originally built in 1959 during the Cold War. While it used to be a part of the U.S. Defense System, it’s now been decommissioned and can be used in many ways, broker Sharon Hubbard said.
“Not only is this a remarkable piece of real estate, but it also presents a truly unique opportunity for anyone interested in owning a piece of Cold War history,” Hubbard said via email.
In addition to the history, the listing also calls the property the “the ultimate prepper’s retreat.”
Real estate parody account Zillow Gone Wild said in a social media post that it would be the perfect property to own during a zombie apocalypse.
“You may be thinking ‘what am I supposed to do with an old missile silo’ - well let me tell you. This one has over 15k feet of space (zombie proof castle basically) with a 1250 foot landing strip (flee before the zombies get u if u want) and 10 acres of fenced perimeter protected by chain link and barbed wire (also zombie proof),” Zillow Gone Wild’s Instagram post reads.
The property has 10 acres of fenced property with chain link and barbed wire. The quonset hut has both living space and a garage space.
The property is located at 3627 Road D in Allen. More information can be found on the property’s listing.
